Tips for Improving Your YouTube Channel

Post originally from the SymBlog.

If you’re an artist or DJ, YouTube can bring you new opportunities for finding potential fans and spreading your music. Your YouTube channel is a representation of not only your music but also yourself. We’ve put together a few tips for your YouTube channel.

Complete your profile

Fully completing your channel’s profile will help you to build up your YouTube reputation. Having good channel art is the first step to completing your profile. Uploading a profile and cover photo that are relevant to your branding as an artist makes a huge difference. YouTube’s cover photo specs are 2560×1440 px.

Add your best video

Adding a video as your “Featured Video” (subscribers) or “Channel Trailer” (non-subscribers) is the next step you want to take to improve your channel. If your most recent video isn’t one of your bests, swap it out with another one that will attract viewers to watch it and hopefully click subscribe.

To update your channel’s featured video, go to your “My Channel” settings and select “Video and Playlists”. Don’t forget to add an eye-catching description! Including lyrics and social links in the description are always helpful.

Create playlists

Playlists are a great way to organize your channel. The playlist option is below the social sharing options. Make sure to choose a name that fits the videos you plan on putting in it.

Make sure your thumbnails look good

To upload thumbnails, you have to verify your YouTube channel. This can be done by entering your mobile number and confirming the code sent via text.

You don’t necessarily have to use a clip from your video as a thumbnail. You have the option to create something eye-catching that will peak the interests of viewers. Adding metadata to the image is also helpful for SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Using a target keyword (i.e. the name of your video) in the filename and metadata gives your image the chance to show up in Google’s search engine results page.

Use annotations

You can use annotations to get link other videos to your video. This can help to boost views and engagements on your other videos.

Be social

Remember that YouTube is a social network. Although the platform isn’t a traditional social network, it still gives your fans the chance to engage and interact with you. YouTube’s Basic Info tab gives you the option to share your latest video with your Google+ and Twitter fans.

Responding to your viewer’s comment is another great way to be social. Listening to what they have to say, gives you the chance to create videos that they’ll love.

By following these simple tips, from completing your profile to being social, you will improve your YouTube’s reach and engagement.
