The Science Behind Why People Share Music

Image
A Guest Post by The Musicians Guide Blog post originally from MusicClout . As some of you may know, I have a real passion for understanding human behavior, and over the past few years I’ve dedicated a lot of my attention to learning about sharing. In this post I want to explain the science of sharing and how you can use this knowledge to encourage fans to share your music more frequently. Nothing Goes Viral To begin with, there is no such thing as viral – songs don’t go viral, nor do YouTube videos of cats – they simply go through ‘compound sharing’. There’s a reason I emphasise this, and it’s to stop people saying ‘we want to go viral’, which does nothing but put ‘viral’ on a pedestal. If you want your song to ‘go viral’ you must have a high compound rate. Here’s what I mean. Let’s say that 1 in 100 people who listen to your song share it, if you initially reach 5,000 people, and each person who shares it exposes it to an average of 50 new people, your song will reach an e

Beatport Now Supports Pre-Order

Image
Blog post originally from SymphonicBlog . Beatport is thrilled to officially announce the launch of our most requested label and supplier feature, pre-order! Beatport now offers pre-order purchases for releases/tracks, at the discretion of the label and/or distributor. The default pre-order status is set to off. Offering content for pre-order is optional and changes to the existing schema are not necessary if pre-order is not being offered for your content. A pre-order start date indicates the date on which customers may begin previewing and ordering content prior to its official release. Customers who pre-order content will not receive the actual assets until the official release date. Things to note: - If audio preview clips being available is an issue then you should not make the content available for pre-order on Beatport. - Tracks on a release can be pre-ordered individually thus the user is not restricted to having to purchase the full release. - There is no pre-order s

Simple Structure For Your Mixing

Image
Blog post originally from SymphonicBlog . Check out these five tips for a simple structure for mixing! 1. Pump up The Volume? The art and science of balancing each channel is the foundation of starting any mix. This is where you become the Wizard of all Dynamic Control. Push on the faders and experiment for a while after you have recorded & Edited your tracks. EQ and Compression play an instrumental role, but only interfere if you have improper balance. So keep your fingers away from any processing until you are on the level. Yes, you will have to adjust as you add compression, EQ, AUX Sends & Effects, but the rest of your mixing will be much more fun! Make it a point to spend 15-20 on your balancing and you will save 2 or three times that later on. 2. Get Sideways! Theres nothing worse than every channel fighting for their position front and center. Find the right place for each element in the stereo spectrum, but nothing too drastic. Spread some love between the

The Importance of Having a Website as an Artist

Image
Blog post originally from the SymphonicBlog . Edited by Coldbeat. There is more to the Internet than just social media websites and apps. Creating and using your own website is an important part of promotion for a musician. Here are six reasons why you need to have a website. Create a sense of professionalism A website is a place for you to keep contact information, basic information about your band (name, members, genre), and much more. Essentially, it is a one-stop way for others to know who you are and if they are interested in contacting you. Having a website with all of this information on it shows others that you are serious about your music. A website is like a resume for your band You can keep a list of past shows as well as future ones. This along with your contact information turns your website into a virtual resume.
