Twitter vs Facebook - What is a better site for musicians

Image
Article from MusicClout As a social media manager who represents numerous band and solo artists, I spent a countless amount of time working and playing on Facebook, Twitter, and the many other social media platforms which exist in the online landscape. Over the years, I have gained a unique insight into the various platforms out there in the context of music marketing. So which one is the best for artists trying to promote their music? In this article I will focus on comparing the two most popular and well known social media site, Facebook and Twitter. While both platforms have their own strengths and weaknesses, when it comes to marketing your music, one of them clearly stands out. That platform is Twitter. Let me share with you some of the reasons I have found Twitter to be far superior than Facebook when it comes to music marketing. 1. The ability to reach a wider audience - When it comes to reach, there is one important difference between Twitter and Facebook - Facebo...

[UPDATED APR.02] Important changes for the Coldwave Records catalogues

Image
As part of our continuous work to improve the services and tools we offer to all our clients, partners, fans and artists, Coldwave Records is moving its entire catalogue (since the very first one "CWREC001 Valleys Breeze - The Beginning" till the last one) to a brand new distributor partner. We are working closely with  Symphonic Distribution  for over 2 years as partner to distribute the music we have coming by Ehtraxx and B-SidEhtraxx, and soon the entire Coldwave Records catalogue will be distributed by them as well. As many stores, streaming services, and general partners don't have label transferability, they will have to take down our content that was distributed by different distributor partners. But don't worry, we are working hard to re-upload every single release and every single track, so if your music isn't available in determined partner, don't worry, your music will be back there soon. Anyway, some issues may happen in the way, we will le...

How to change or build your career

Image
Article from MusicClout Originally written by Derek Sivers I get emails from many people wanting to change or build their career. I always recommend the best book on the subject: “ So Good They Can’t Ignore You ” by Cal Newport. Here are a few of its best points: Forget passion and purpose Forget “follow your passion” or “find your true calling”. Stop thinking like that. Here’s why: Words like “passion” and “purpose” are dangerous because they sound huge and romantic. If you think you haven’t found your passion yet, you’re probably expecting it to be overwhelming — to hit you like lightning. Looking for your passion, purpose, or calling is an example of the fixed mindset . You’re assuming that this is an inherent and unchanging thing inside of you, like trying to read your DNA or blood type. But you won’t find passion and purpose there, because that’s not where those feelings come from. Passion and purpose are emotions that come after expertise and experience. The way...

3 Key Tips For Getting Your Music In A Commercial

Image
Article from MusicClout Originally written by  Andy Lykens Note from EH Mídia Editors: We work closely with record labels that can help you sending your music to PR partners for possible commercial placements, contact us if you need further information. Yes, advertising pays and it pays well.  The days of seeing licensing music for use in advertisements as selling out are near an end (for most bands and artists). As long as a song is aligned with a cool brand, the brand will shell out a stupid amount of money, or if a new artist is seeking exposure the placement of music in advertising seen as a smart business move. When I speak at Universities or at panels inevitably artists will ask a question that’s burning in their minds: “How do I get my music in a commercial?” I’d be lying if I told you it’s easy and didn’t take a long time to get something placed. Even major publishers and labels have dedicated people (like me!) pitching music ALL the time.  At the en...

Six Ways To Get Your Music On TV

Image
By Andy Lykens January 7th 2013 Article from MusicClout Lately I've been fielding a lot of questions by songwriters and composers looking for ways to get their music licensed on TV, in film, and on commercials. How do I even get my stuff considered for commercials? The short answer to this question is “hit the pavement.” Luckily, I’m going to give you the long answer too! There are several options when it comes to getting your music in front of people who consistently license music. Here are just a few ideas to help get you started: 1) Contact them directly – This is definitely the hardcore sales route. It is probably the most daunting and least appetizing approach, but it also allows you to play some solid odds. While there really aren’t that many people directly in charge of music specifically at agencies, there ARE a lot of people involved in the final decision. Use your current connections and see if you know someone who knows someone and reach out. 2) Non-Excl...

Networking Essentials For The Music Business

Image
Post originally from MusicClout So you have a huge list of music industry contacts, now what. If you’re like most artists, this is a very common situation. Not to worry though, this situation has a many ways of getting back on track. Here are 4 very simple tips you can use to make the most of your music contacts. 1. What Are You Waiting For? - Just Reach Out And Say Hello. You’d be surprised by the number of artists who are just afraid to pick up the phone or send out and email just to keep in contact. People love when others take notice of them, and your music contacts are no different. Try and make it a point to reach out to all your contacts at least 4 times per year and think about making those points of contact vary from contact to contact. 2. Make Sure You Have Something They Need. Giving your music contacts information or content that’s not relevant to them is a sure fire way of ruining your relationship with those contacts. Instead, always make sure what you’re sendin...
